iMT Taiwan 2019 refocuses market with 5 domestic industry strengths

New Pavilions launched: Foundry, Forging, Welding, Metallurgy and Heat Treatment

International Metal Technology Taiwan (iMT Taiwan) will mark its 5th edition as Taiwan’s only exhibition focused on metallurgy processing and precision machinery with highlight on industry leaders’ capabilities. 5 new themed pavilions on Foundry, Forging, Welding, Metallurgy and Heat Treatment will be curated to attract manufacturers and technology providers with specializations in these areas. These pavilions will pave for the expansion of iMT Taiwan’s show floor to be occupied between 7 and 10 Nov 2019 at the Taichung International Exhibition Hall.

Now that the exhibition will be held in Taichung for the second time, exhibitors can further benefit from the city’s strategic position as Taiwan’s lead industry cluster for manufacturing innovation and quality. With its robust industrial backyard, Taichung connects the country’s extensive metal supply chain. By supporting the up, mid and downstream production sectors to complement each other, the city maps out Taiwan’s metal industry development roadmap and initiates technological change for both local and overseas markets.

Given Taiwan’s strong metal industry landscape, international companies have recurrently used the country as a manufacturing and technology development base. Since its inception, iMT Taiwan has become the entry point for foreign metal businesses to explore the Taiwan market. In 2018, out of the 157 exhibiting companies that participated. 10 % were from overseas namely; the United States, Japan, Germany, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, India and more.

For 2019, the call for more international companies to participate at iMT Taiwan is increasing to complement ‘Made in Taiwan’ metal technologies and products. Wider international participation is also expected to further invigorate the competitiveness of Taiwan’s metal industry. Behind its internationally renowned reputation, Taiwan’s metal industry has experienced a 50-year development, becoming a solid economic-building sector for the country. The exhibition will further promote Taiwan’s high-value metals, processing machineries, technologies and their competitively-priced end or by-products that are well sought-after by world markets.

Taiwan’s metal manufacturers expected to increase global supply

In 2018, the output value of basic metal manufacturing and metal products in Taiwan exceeded 2.3 trillion yuan. The direct export value of metal applications such as tool machinery and steam locomotive transportation also exceeded 852.5 billion yuan. However, global trade protection and new market openings have triggered supply chain changes which eventually affected demand and production numbers. For the foundry market, Taiwan’s dominance is firmly entrenched according to EE Times. “As home to three of the top six foundries worldwide, Taiwan has a network of fabs, supply chain infrastructure, and — most importantly — talent that is unrivalled”, as reported by Dylan McGrath, Editor-in-chief of EE Times (India).

Digitimes Research (Taiwan) earlier in 2018 estimated that Taiwan’s top-3 foundries were then expected to see their combined revenues generated from 28nm and below process technologies decline 11.3% sequentially to account for 54.1% of the overall combined revenues in the first quarter of 2018. Going into 2019, industry analysts are also expecting the market leaders and other small and medium-size to large-size foundries to better their output performance, thereby further expanding Taiwan’s share in the foundry market.

In addition, industry trends such as smart manufacturing, green factories, and circular economy have also changed the shape of the industrial value chain, as companies pay more attention to their operational performance efficiency and are focused towards sustainability. Factors such as the push for Industry 4.0 have led metal businesses to look review their operational systems. Forging, heat transfer, welding innovations and the overall metallurgy production processes will undergo an industrial transformation driven by advanced technologies which many could be originally developed in Taiwan itself.

Taiwan’s contribution and rising important role in the global metal industry meant that the country needs to understand the trends and demands of world markets. In order to provide Taiwanese companies with industry network support from global metal players, iMTTaiwan organizer – Kaigo Co; Ltd has partnered with German’s leading trade fair organizer, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH to create the most professional metal exhibition for the Asia Pacific region. With the German partner’s expertise in developing the world’s number 1 exhibitions for the metal industry – GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST, iMT Taiwan will gain stature for its effort in developing Asia Pacific’s metal industry.

Locally, the exhibition will continue to receive support from the Taichung City Government in welcoming overseas buyers to explore the region’s metal industry capabilities. Other industry partners will include Metal Industries & Development Centre, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Metal Industry Intelligence, IT IS and other supporting organizations and partners.

As the only exhibition in Taiwan specializing in metal production processes and the processing equipment for end-to-end spectrum of the metal industry value chain, iMT Taiwan integrates the entire industry. Alongside the secondary product range comprising casting, metal materials and semi-finished metal products, the 5 pavilions on Foundry, Forging, Welding, Metallurgy and Heat Treatment will renew iMT Taiwan’s focus on specific capabilities that Taiwanese and Taiwan-based foreign companies can offer to worldwide buyers.

Catering to downstream and the middle stream needs, the exhibition will present the interconnected character of Taiwan’s metal industry and their cohesive development. With high-tech process and customization capabilities, ‘Made in Taiwan’ high-value products will take centre stage at the exhibition. iMT Taiwan will deliver a one-stop sourcing platform for win-win trade opportunity for international buyers to visit and procure at a dedicated central venue.  iMT Taiwan 2019 aims to draw 6,300 visitors through its many visitor programs such as the overseas buyer incentives, various industry-led forums and other engaging on-site activities to augment their sourcing trip to the Taichung.
