BASF and BigRep cooperate in 3D printing

BASF 3D Printing Solutions GmbH and the startup company BigRep have entered into a strategic partnership to develop 3D printing solutions for industrial applications. Besides joint development of materials and printers for industrial customer requirements, the cooperation involves investment by BASF Venture Capital in the young company to further strengthen 3D printing.

In the chemical industry, BASF has the broadest product portfolio of materials that can be developed for 3D printing.

BigRep, which is headquartered in Berlin and has offices in Boston, New York und Singapore, develops and produces large 3D printers that can print extensive components on a corresponding scale. The company also develops solutions for industry customers seeking to further expand automated 3D printing production.

In return, BASF contributes comprehensive knowledge of materials and their industrial applications and also offers the broadest product portfolio in the chemical industry for the development of 3D printing materials. “With the combined skills of the two companies, this forward-looking partnership will allow our customers to accelerate the development of industrial applications,” said Volker Hammes, Managing Director of BASF 3D Printing Solutions GmbH.

“We aim to offer our customers the most innovative 3D printing solutions with BigRep printers. BASF’s expertise will help us to achieve the next level,” said René Gurka, CEO of BigRep. “BASF is a strong partner with access to global markets. Together, we can help our customers meet their challenges by providing innovative 3D printing production technologies.”
